Development Company, DF Studios Limited, has commenced its eight-week course in Game Development. Students will learn how to make their very first game from scratch without any prior experience.
The studio was recently selected as one of the top 6 in the world for a Universal Studios Game Development Competition, to take place in Los Angeles in August 2018.
Students taking the course have expressed appreciation for the interactive, engaging and progressive teaching.
“I’ve always had a passion for gaming, and until now I never felt that there was an avenue to learn how to design and develop my own,” said René, a student. “It’s really exciting because we are already working on full-fledged games to be presented for our final projects.”
The team behind the course are game developers Mikkell Khan, Alan Ferreira and Brent Hinds who have a combined portfolio of twenty years of experience.
“We brainstormed this course because we felt there was a serious gap in skills with people who have tremendous gaming ideas but not the tools to being those ideas into reality,” Brent Hinds said. “We have a lot of talent in Trinidad and Tobago, and we want to play a role in developing that.
By the end of the course, participants will learn about programming, text-based games, simple 2D click and shoot games, the importation of 3D models, shuriken (visual effects in gaming) and the publishing and distribution process for digital games.
“Our plan is to take participants through game development from genesis to production and distribution,” said Mikkell Khan. “It has to be comprehensive, detailed and fun.”
Classes are currently conducted in Port of Spain. The company plans to expand their offering to Couva as well for the next cycle in August.
